    League Format and Rules

The 3-4 Grade Girls & Boys:

    • The number of teams in the league is based on the total participants and trying to create teams of 7-9 players ( 8 teams is the average)
    • Teams will be assigned a team name, receive uniforms, equipment, gym time and space for practice and will function as stand-along teams.
    • The teams will compete in an in-house MHAA only league and play each team twice or as many as dates allow.
    • Scores will be kept and reported to the League Coordinator or Commissioner.  Standings will be kept and will be used to determine the seeding for the end of the year tournament.
    • Trophies or Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place tournament finishes.

    General Rules:

    • All players, coaches and parents will exhibit respectful behavior toward each other and referees.  The Commissioner or Coordinator can have anyone removed for inappropriate behavior
    • Players must be committed to their team by attending practices and games.  Excessive absences may result in removal from the team/league.
    • Proper basketball attire is to be worn at all times and uniforms are to be worn for all competitions.

Team Selection Process for 3-4 Grade Basketball

The Commissioner will contact volunteer coaches and ask them to pair-up with another coach OR the Commissioner can help assign them.  The Coaches’ kids will automatically be assigned to their team.  Rosters will be completed with a draft.  The draft process is:

    • All players will be evaluated by all coaches based on dribbling, shooting, athleticism and playing.
    • Based on the evaluations, each player will receive scores in each category AND will receive a total score.  The total score will be used for the draft.
    • The draft starts by adding up the scores of each coaches kid.  The team with the highest kids’ scores picks last – the lowest picks first, etc.
    • Each team gets a pick in each round and total points are recalculated each round to determine the order of the next round.  If a team starts with 1 coach and therefore one player, and that player’s total score is less than any other teams combined score of players, that team gets the only pick of the first round in order to bring each team to two players.  Scores will then be recalculated to determine the order of the second round.  If a team starts with three players, they will pick in the second (or third if a team only had one player) round in order of their points.
    • Rounds continue in order of lowest point total until each player is selected
    • Trades may be made on draft night only and with the approval of the coaches of each team AND the Commissioner (or designee).
